Helping To Keep London Moving

Client : Transport for London

Overview

Transport for London (TfL) is accountable for the planning and delivery of transport facilities such as London's buses, the London Underground, the Docklands Light Railway, London trams, London River Services and Victoria Coach Station.

It also administers the London Congestion Charge, and regulates taxis and the private hire trade.

The Business Requirement

TfL needed to develop a business continuity programme as part of a wider strategy to help keep London moving in the event of a major disruption.

The programme would ensure that plans were in place to respond to a range of disruptions such as the loss of a building, IT or key staff. TfL's ability to cope in such an event would ensure that it could maintain its key role in delivering transport services for London.

The Solution

Garrison Continuity was selected because it was best able to demonstrate an understanding of TfL's critical business functions and operating environment, and had previously delivered effective solutions for London Underground.

The first stage of the project was to carry out a detailed analysis of risks, potential impacts and resource needs. Using this data, Garrison worked with TfL to develop an effective business continuity strategy that interfaces with TfL's operational contingency plans and provides a roadmap for fast business recovery.

Garrison also carried out full testing to ensure that plans would work in practice, and that TfL staff knew what they had to do. Ongoing plan maintenance will accommodate any changes, and help to embed a business continuity culture throughout the organisation as it evolves.
